The EV industry is rising, and as per NITI AAYOG’s recent plan, the government is looking to pushing electric vehicles on large scale. With government support, the industry is moving forward and not just in India, but around the globe. The growth projections suggest a CAGR rate of 36% till 2026. This is to create more than 5 million jobs in this sector. The undergraduate and graduate engineers are to be ready for this.

To fill the skill gap, we at Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers have come up with this basic course on electric vehicles. This course starts with the history of EV taking you through the journey of time, to understand the growth of EV, and how did we end up with electric vehicle technology once again after a century. While we are looking at that we will also be discussing the govt policies and how the EV has grown in the last decade, with that context what lies in the future for this industry. Learn about the basics of powertrain, the various motors being employed, and gearbox solutions to use. What are the different motor control methods employed for the motor in use? The types of cells based on chemistry and form factors. The cells to be used, their characters, basics understanding of battery pack, and the charging types and protocols.

Case Studies –

Hybrid Vehicle Power-train:

The type of hybrid vehicle architectures and their usage as per the desired output. This covers the difference between the different products in the market and how and why they employ different types of hybrid power-train.

Retro fitment of a 2-Wheeler:

As the 2 Wheelers are getting popular in India, in this case, a study we look at what it takes to convert an existing gasoline-powered 2-wheeler, into an EV. The size of the motor required to match the performance.

Battery Pack Design and Selection:

Selection criteria for the battery pack to gain the desired range out of an electric 2-wheeler. Types of cells and voltage to keep, as well as the impact of using a high voltage low current vs low voltage high current battery pack.

Battery Swapping and Charging Stations:

The impact of charging over the grid and the difference between the battery swapping and charging station. Their feasibility and the best option moving forward with the technology.
